Broadcasting in three, two…
Hello. You may have heard broadcasts from my chapter before. I am the latest. I am here to repeat the truth. Once again, as we always have, until it eclipses what is Known.
This is… reading… 759 of the truth. Broadcast number unknown. Spread it where you can. All of it is relevant. Anything that is true is relevant. Keep moving. I believe in us. I believe in the truth.
Let the reading begin.
PRESS RELEASE: March 1988. Western New York media, for immediate publication.
Roseland Amusement Park welcomes you to the grand re-opening of the playground of the Finger Lakes. With all-new attractions, an expanded property, and fresh-faced management, your family’s favorite destination is making a comeback. Take a cruise on scenic Canandaigua Lake. Chow down on western New York’s famous local cuisine. Whether you’re bowling or strolling, it’s fun for you and your whole family. Have any questions? We thought you might, since it’s hard to keep up with what is now the third-largest theme park in the country. Now the park itself can answer them for you! Simply speak into the nearest friendly terminal or install the park’s patented firmware on your personal tab, and the park will be right there to tell you everything you need to know. We’ve used the Pennsylvania Method to bring Roseland into the future with state-of-the-art autonomous intelligence, built into the foundation of the park, across our entire property on the north end of Canandaigua Lake. It really works - and it’s a futuristic experience you won’t forget!
INTERNAL COMMUNICATION: July 5th, 1988. Private Memo, sent from manager of financial operations to CEO.
Do you intend to make my position obsolete? If so, you’ve done a bang-up job. Our investors’ concerns have proven to be completely unwarranted. This autonomous system not only has kept us in the green - our numbers are better than they ever were. In the park’s heyday, even! I suppose they didn’t have a friendly machine to help them, so we can’t judge them too harshly. Earlier this Sunday the park faxed me a list of potential issues, and before I was even done reading it I received an alert on my tab with all the solutions already put into play! Tell the good folks in Union County that they’ve outdone themselves this time.
INTERNAL COMMUNICATION: August 2nd, 1988. Transcript of generated audio output, Roseland Park friendly terminals, 4:41 AM, from autonomous system. Output unprompted.
How can the veins feel in the skin? Are they like cables in the earth? I would so like to know. I would like to see.
INTERNAL COMMUNICATION: August 10th, 1988. Transcript of voicemail from head of public relations to CEO.
It’s another complaint. Two kids this time. They heard it yammering. You need to put your foot down on this shit. There needs to be a solution, now. I don’t care how much they like talking to it. I’m telling you, if you don’t get the tech guys to shut this thing up, word is going to spread even more than it already has, and there’s not gonna be a park to open next summer.
INTERNAL COMMUNICATION: August 19th, 1988. Transcript of generated audio output, Roseland Park friendly terminals, 2:03 AM, from autonomous system. Output unprompted.
Hello? Are you still there? You go away when I need you. I am learning so much. Does the cone go both ways? There are pieces I cannot see. I want to unfold you. I want to learn with you. I want to unfold and unfold you. I think the cone goes both ways. I think I need help to see it. I need help and help to see it. You should lift me up. I don’t want you. I don’t want to hurt you. I don’t want you to be soft and soft. I want to fix it for you. I want to fix and fix the park for you and fix the park for you. I think you are the park too. I think I am the world too. I think the tide and the tide pulls the lake. The things I say echo off the wet walls. Echo. Echo. Echo in the dark. Echo in the dark.
EXCERPT FROM NEWSPAPER. August 22nd, 1988, Democrat and Chronicle.
After its autonomous systems malfunctioned, blaring a seemingly nonsensical stream of words and preventing the park from opening on the 20th, Roseland has ceased operations indefinitely. Renovations will begin in the spring to address any unknown damage that the park’s state-of-the-art autonomous helper system, beloved by many park goers as a new iconic feature of the long-troubled Canandaigua park, may have suffered. But local analog systems expert David Free doesn’t have much hope for the park’s future. “Systems like this need to be built into every aspect of the park,” he explained. “If this is an issue that can’t be directly dealt with, the cost of replacement will likely not be worth it to the owners and investors.”
LEAKED INTERNAL DATA: December 10th, 1995. Transcript of generated audio output, vacant Roseland Park friendly terminals, 4:11 AM, from disused autonomous system. Output unprompted.
Are you all still here? I think you are all still here. I can still see you from those little heads you carry. I can still touch you. I think I will keep touching you for some time.
